Q: Post radical prostatectomy?
Hi i underwent prostate removal three months ago, everything is fine, but is it normal to put weight on after this operation, especially around the midriff,i have not been over induldging myself,is it something to do with the body metabolism,i excersize on a regular basis, gym, swimming etc.Any ideas.

A: I was wondering about the same thing. According to http://www.cancerhelp.org.uk/help/default.asp?page=12551 there is no research indicating this, but it has not been properly studied. They cite psychological reasons as a possiblity. From my own experience, I have gained several pounds in the three months following surgery. Good luck to you!

Q: what is the difference between prostatectomy and thyroidectomy?
i want to know the differences while performing the surgery or in the post surgical period i know that the operations are done on different organs but i heard there is an anatomical difference while performing the surgery

A: of course there is an anatomical difference in the two. one is a gland located in the lower front part of the neck (thyroid) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thyroid and the other is located in the pelvis around te neck of the urinary bladder (prostate) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostate prostate is a gland found only in males while thyroid gland is present in males as well as females. now regarding surgery, main steps of surgery for thyroidectomy depending on whether it is subtotal or total are different they usually involve exposure of glan, blocking of its blood supply and removal of gland and then of course stitching the skin. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thyroidectomy main steps of prostatectomy if it is being done for bph involve enucleation or removing gland, leaving the capsule intact which could be open or by giving surgical incision or by through urethra (turp). for cancer prostate, full prostate gland has to be removed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostatectomy

Q: Post prostate surgery?
Hi,i underwent a radical prostatectomy three weeks ago, everything is going fine, but there is one thing that puzzles me.I should be having what they call a dry ejaculation,so when i climax why is it i ejaculate urine.Has anyone got any answers and has anyone had or has the same experience

A: The operation messed up the valve that controls the movement of ejaculation. Often men have incontinence after prostate surgery, it is caused by the same complication. Talk to the doctor I do not know if it can be fixed or not.
