Q: Is non organic milk worse than soda due to its prostate cancer and hormones?
My mom always buy non organic milk instead of organic, because she thinks organic milk health claims are scam for money. I recently heard non organic milk has poisonous chemicals added to it, and that it could cause cancer. Does this mean we should be replacing it with soda or should we continue drinking it. Btw she's not buying the non organic because of money issues, its because she doesn't want to spend extra money for something she thinks is nothing.
A: Umm no, you are greatly over inflating the danger of non-organic milk. The really is no danger in non-organic milk. Your mom is right, its really not worth the extra money. Not for milk anyway. And soda is nothing but empty calories, it has no value whatsoever, and nobody should ever really drink it. The best thing to drink would be water. But the non-organic milk isn't dangerous, and your being kind of silly about it. Especially if you think soda would be better for you.
Q: Can female hormone cause man's prostate cancer?
Does milk contain female hormone?
A: If by "female hormone" you mean estrogen and estrogenoids, then no it does not cause prostate cancer, that is mostly related to testosterone (male hormone). One of the treatments for prostate cancer can be to turn off all the sex hormones in the body with a drug called leupron, but I've never heard of estrogen playing a role in prostate cancer.
Milk depends on the source. If it's just regular store brand milk, then it might have a low level of estrogens in it. It is from female cows after all. If you want to minimize the levels of estrogens/hormones in your milk, I recomment drinking skim milk. Hormones are generally fat soluble and taking the cream off the top of the milk (as in skim) should reduce their levels a great deal.
Q: Does hormone therapy prolong the life of men with prostate cancer?
If so, by how much?
A: Absolutely! I am a medical transcriptionist for a urology group and I see this every day. There are so many great treatments out there for prostate cancer now. Be sure and discuss ALL the options with your doctor to find the right one.
Q: Would hormone shots cause prostate cancer?
A: Testosterone can speed the progression of prostate cancer.
Sometimes prostate cancer is treated by using hormone blockers for testosterone to slow down the progression of the prostate cancer.
If you already had prostate cancer and were taking testosterone it might be possible that it caused the cancer to progress further.
Q: why hormone therapy is used for prostate cancer?
A: It stops the pituitary gland in the brain producing testosterone which is what controls the growth of the tumour.
Q: my dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer yesterday. he has to have a bone scan and is on hormone therapy why?
i don't think he is telling me the full story
A: They will do a bone scan to determine if the cancer has spread to any bony structures. Prostate cancer has an affinity for the lumbar spine so anyone diagnosed with prostate cancer will get a bone scan to make sure it is confined to the prostate and has not spread beyond there.
The reason they do a bone scan is it is very sensitive for changes in bone so if there is metastatic spread it will show up very early on a bone scan whereas you need somewhere in the range of 30% bone loss to have it show up on X-Ray.
Hormone therapy has several uses (from cancer.org):
- before surgery or radiation to try and shrink the cancer to make other treatments more effective
- if you are not able to have surgery or radiation or can't be cured by these treatments because the cancer has already spread beyond the prostate gland
- if your cancer remains or comes back after treatment with surgery or radiation therapy
- as an addition to radiation therapy as initial treatment if you are at high risk for cancer recurrence
Given that your dad was diagnosed yesterday it is most likely that they are trying to shrink the tumor prior to surgery.
Both of those treatments/procedures are fairly stock-standard for someone diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Wish your dad the best of luck.
Q: In combo with seed radiation, what female hormones are administered fo prostate cancer?
A: Are you thinking of megestrol it is a progesterone derivative?
Q: The USA is allowing the RBGH Hormone which is killing us and it is banned in Europe and Japan - Why?
Starbucks uses milk from cows that are injected with a genetically engineered, artificial hormone called recombinant bovine growth hormone, also known as rBGH or rBST.
The problem is, this hormone is known to cause harm to cows and may pose harm to humans. Use of rBGH can contribute to the growth of antibiotic resistant bacteria. rBGH increases the rate of udder infections in cows, which are then treated with antibiotics. Use of rBGH could also pose a cancer risk to people. Injections of rBGH increase another hormone, called IGF-1, in the cow and the cow's milk. Too much IGF-1 in humans is linked with increase rates of colon, breast, and prostate cancer.
This hormone is banned in Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and all 25 countries of the European Union. And until we can get it banned in the U.S., we need to urge major food producers to use safer milk. Starbucks has already increased its use of hormone-free milk to 37% based on activist letters and calls. Let's keep up the pressure - sign the petition today to urge Starbucks to use milk that is free of artificial hormones!
A: Sounds more like a political issue or opinion being tossed around. Providing scientific documented facts would help establish your case.

Q: Men with prostate cancer?
My dad was just recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. He has received the hormone injections to slow the growing of the tumor (unfortunately, the cancer has spread to his lymph nodes, but fortunately not to the organs or bones). He is scheduled to get the seeds implanted sometime this month. Has anyone gone through this before? Will he get really sick from it? How do I help him cope?
A: Seeds will not make him sick, although there are occasionally complications. The hormones will have more of an effect. Hormone treatment is basically chemical castration...it reduces the production of testosterone. He will experience a reduction in libido, softening of secondary sexual characteristics, and may have hot flashes, similar to a woman in menopause. The hormones are probably being administered temporarily to shrink his prostate in order to make it more accessible for seeding. The effects will reverse once he's off them.
I'm surprised they aren't supplementing the seeds with beam radiation, since the cancer has already reached the lymph nodes. (How do they know it reached the nodes?)
Q: My husband has been receiving shots of Lupron every 4-6 weeks for prostate cancer. What is the purpose?
