Q: Is there a section in this service that deals with health matters only? For instance prostate cancer treatment
A: You're in it - this is the men's health section. Good luck man.
Q: What are the chances of surviving a prostate cancer over the long-term if you are also diabetic?
Does the fact that you have Diabetes 2 complicate your recovery efforts? I am thinking that prostate cancer treatment might involve a dietary adjustment that might complicate what one is trying to do to cut down on sugar intake.
A: Diabetes has no effect on surviving prostate cancer if you have not already developed complications from diabetes, but some prostate cancer treatments cause side effects that reduce the longterm survival rate for diabetes. Make sure you talk to your doc about all the treatment options and choose one that gives you the best chances for long-term health. Look into robotic surgery. If this is an option for you, it may cause the least amount of complications.

A: This is the free alternative for cancer patients.Do it and you will know from the future test results. You can also do it alongside any medical treatment. It is very natural and works like chemotherapy - destroys only the cancer cells.
Cancer hates oxygen and cannot live in a high-oxygen environment. If you want to supplement the medical treatment you receive(or not receive) with some alternative therapy then this is for you. You need to help your body to build up your immune system. The breathing exercises - pranayam is a holistic approach creating extra oxygen supply in the body and will slowly help with the health problem.Do the pranayam to see the benefits.Build up your timing slowly and after four weeks at the suggested maximum duration you will start to notice benefits gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume later.
What is known: pranayam helps the body heal itself. How it works in the body is not known – but people may build their own theory. You have to do it yourself for your benefit.
The small print: Keep doing pranayam after you are better for minimum 30 minutes a day for rest of life to maintain health.
People who have been treated successfully, should do pranayam as well, as there is a chance of recurrence.
The pranayam techniques:
Bhastrika - Take a long deep breath into the lungs(chest not tummy) via the nose and then completely breathe out through the nose.Duration upto 5 minutes.
Kapalbhati -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and do for 20 to 30 minutes twice a day.(Max 60 min/day) Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently.
Anulom Vilom - Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril
then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril
then -keeping the left nostril closed deep breath-in through right nostril
then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril.
This is one cycle of anulom vilom.
Repeat this cycle for 20 to 30 minutes twice a day(maximum 60 minutes in one day).
You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed.
Bhramri Pranayam -Close eyes. Close ears with thumb, index finger on forehead, and rest three fingers on base of nose touching eyes. Breathe in through nose. And now breathe out through nose while humming like a bee.
Duration : 5 to 10 times
Only by doing you will benefit and will feel good that you can do something to help the body.Copy and print this to improve your technique and stay focused. This is simplified pranayam for everyone and you do not have to go to classes to learn. This is for life, unlike short term classes where you do it in the class then stop when classes are over.
For Prostate cancer follow the pranayam and you can notice the benefits in 3 months.

Q: I just read that men with prostate cancer don't get good treatment, is this true?
Do they get good treatment or do men not get good treatment if they have prostate cancer?? That sucks if you get cancer you can't even get good treatment.
A: I think perhaps what you mean is that they get treatment that is not necessary, this type of cancer progresses very slowly and many patients do not opt for treatment as a result. See this link.

Q: prostate cancer, with no treatment what will happen?
how long do you have before it causes problems and how does it end your life?
A: It depends on your age and what stage the cancer is at. My dad got it in his 70s and the doctor said he was more likely to die with it than of it. But he did die of it. He had it for about six years and did have treatment.
If you are younger, you will probably want to have treatment because, although it is slow, it can spread and then you have real problems. In my dad's case, it apparently spread to his bones and he ended up very weak and unable to care for himself. He was in a nursing home for the last six weeks of his life before he had a stroke, otherwise he might have lingered for a long time with it.
(I say the cancer killed him because being bedridden probably caused the clot that caused the stroke.)
Q: best hospitals in the UK for the treatment of metastatic prostate cancer?
A: Vale of Leaven Hospital in Scotland
Q: who has had treatment for prostate cancer & how did you go? what treatment did you pick? any side effects?
A: The most effecitive method to treat prostate cancer depends on the situation of paitent, such as age & stage. You'd better visit a specialty doctor who can give you good suggestion.
You can also learn more knowledge about prostate therapies and side effects on them from "www.smile.org.au".
Q: Is there a treatment for prostate cancer that doesn't remove the ability to have sex?
This is going to sound odd -- just deal with that fact. But I've read that, in order for a man to reduce his risk of prostate cancer later in life, he must ejaculate at least 5 times a week during his 20s. That's a LOT of sexual activity, and to be honest, since I don't have regular access to a woman... it's kind of a chore.
So, if I don't do this, and get prostate cancer later on, is there any way to get rid of it without either dying or losing my prostate (and thus, my ability to have sex)?
Thanks.
Sex without ejaculating? How dreadful.
A: Why are you putting yourself thru such agony, Bubba - worrying about something that may not even happen? If you are really that concerned, pick up the phone & call a doctor's office & ask them the very same question. You would get more professional advice there.
Q: European treatment centers for prostate cancer?
Can anyone recommend me a treatment centre in Europe (Germany or Austria or Swiss preferably) that specialises in prostate brachytherapy. My father had external radiotherapy but we would like second opinion from urologist and radiation oncologist. Can be private, payment is not problematic
A: I would consider a hospital of the Hirlanden Group in Switzerland. They do have an excellent reputation.

Q: What are good alternative treatments to prostate cancer?
My friend who is a Physician's Assistant just found out he has prsotate cancer, and is looking into alternative treatments. Any suggestions?
48 years old, stage 1, no other health complications
and thank you everyone for your time and great responses - helps so much!!
A: I would have thought a physician's assistant might possibly have known better than to look to alternative cancer 'treatments'.
In this context 'alternative' means 'unproven and untested'. If a medicine has been proven to work, it is no longer alternative medicine, it is just medicine.
Sadly wherever there is cancer there are ruthless charlatans waiting to part vulnerable and desperate people from their money in exchange for ineffective and sometimes dangerous 'treatments'.
There are also, of course, well-meaning and kind people who pass on information about 'alternative treatments' they have heard of, usually from unsubstantiated anecdote. These people, though kind, are ill-informed and invariably have no experience of cancer.
Conventional treatments are far from perfect, but we know - because they have been rigourously tested and proven in double-blind clinical trials - that they save many lives and prolong many, many more.
If your friend experiments with alternative treatments he will be investing money, hope and - most dangerous of all - time in ineffective scams while his cancer remains untreated.
People will probably recommend diets; I once thought my organic vegan diet, rich in fruit, veg and juices, and my healthy lifestyle would protect me against cancer. It didn't; nor did it cure me.
If your friend is tempted by any particular 'alternative treatment', he (or you) should do a search on http://www.quackwatch.org/ for the facts.
Q: Can Prostate Cancer be cured with no after effects,or is there going to be on going treatment?
My father has just found out that he has it but he has been ill since January,so i'm worried that it has spread further round his body is this possible, please give me as much info has possible as i'm very concerned..Many Thanks
A: I am sorry to hear about your father's diagnosis. Prostate Cancer is a slow growing form of cancer, it can take several years for the cancer to grow within the body before any symptoms appear. That is why most men do not know they have Prostate Cancer until their Doctor orders tests to confirm a diagnosis. Once cancer is confirmed, if it is caught in the early stages it can be treated with a high likelihood of a cure. Only your father's Doctor can answer the question about how serious the cancer is and if it has spread. He might recommend diagnostic tests like an MRI, a CT Scan, or a Bone Scan to help in determining if the cancer has spread. All treatments for Prostate Cancer have side-effects; some take time to heal, other side-effects never heal. Also, there is a chance that the primary treatment doesn't work and additional treatment becomes necessary if the cancer comes back.
The best thing you can do for your father right now is to be supportive, learn as much as you can about this disease, and try not to worry too much. Most men diagnosed with Prostate Cancer go on to live healthy normal lives for many years after diagnosis and treatment.
Q: Prostate cancer ?
I want to know about prostate cancer and what constitutes the optimal form of treatment for patients with clinically localized cancers remains controversial. Can anyone give more information on it?
Thanks in advance.
A: Treatment decisions are at present made on the basis of tumor grade and stage and the age and health of the patient. Although selected patients may be candidates for surveillance based on age or health and the presence of small-volume or well-differentiated cancers, most patients with an anticipated survival in excess of 10 years should be considered for treatment with irradiation or surgery. Both radiation therapy and radical prostatectomy allow for acceptable levels of local control. A randomized trial comparing watchful waiting and radical prostatectomy in men with clinically localized prostate cancer is currently under way in the united states (PIVOT: Prostate Cancer Intervention Versus Observation Trial). This trail will randomize 2000 patients and will run for 15 years. Patients need to be advised of all treatment options (including surveillance) along with their particular benefits, risks, and limitations.
