Q: Prostate biopsy? My dad had a bladder test, MRI and is having a prostate biopsy.?
He has been quiet lately and won't explain what it can be. Is a prostate biopsy a test for prostate cancer. What are the worst scenarios? He had a CT scan 2 years ago of his chest and there were visible spots on his lungs. He never went for a follow up. What are the symptoms of prostate cancer. Thanks!
A: Ah, I am sorry your dad is having this trouble. It's no fun at all. It can feel like it strikes right at the heart of who we are as men. The prostate is a working part of our "packages," the part that makes our semen. It plays a big part in the physical pleasure we get from sex.
Many of us get cancer there as we grow older. The gland can swell with age, which makes it harder to pee. But it can also grow tumors. They can make it VERY hard to pee, which is dangerous. If these tumors spread to other parts of our bodies, it can really mess us up. The good news is that these tumors start off tiny and can be treated very easily in the early stages.
This biopsy deal is where a doc uses some kind of needle to take a little bit of tissue out of the prostate. Somebody will look at it with a microscope. If they see tumors they'll make some suggestions to your dad about what to do.
I don't blame him for not wanting to talk about it. My dad didn't either when he had it. He got some radiation treatment for his cancer, and he's fine now.
Q: Women, Have you ever wondered if there's a blood test for Ovarian Cancer?
There is blood test available called a CA-125. The median age for Ovarian Cancer is 56. But it can show up at as young as 22. Ovarian cancer symptoms are silent but may be enlarged abdomen , diarrhea/ constipation like irratable bowel syndrome. Ask you doctor to order this test for you and take charge of your health. Call you insurance company and ask them to pay for this test. If your GP orders it , it is $25 or if your GYN $125. Men have PSA test for Prostate cancer yearly, so women need this test yearly also. Send this message on to the women you love and friends. You may save their lives..
A: If it was only that simple! This is one of those common 'rumors' circulated around the Internet via email. It's a half truth.
This blood test, CA-125, is not good as a diagnostic tool because it can also detect menstruation, pregnancy, and endometriosis. Thus the real potential for false positive readings since all young women menstrate.
This tool can be used in combination with other diagnostics and it can be used to monitor a patient who already has cancer. If you monitor a cancer patient you can test to see if the levels are rising which might indicate a relapse or reoccurence. While if the levels decreased it would mean that treatment was working. That's the best use for CA-125 at the moment.
Always check this type of information to see if it is an Internet myth, especially if received by email.

Q: Have you ever known someone who has suffered from non-breast and non-prostate cancer?
A friend of mine (a young friend - she's in her early 20s) was diagnosed a couple of months ago with a form of sarcoma. When she was diagnosed, the cancer had already reached stage 4; her survival chances are low, and she's already gone through several dangerous complications which, even if she survives them, will leave her permanently crippled.
Incidentally, she recognized the symptoms of this cancer nearly a year before she was diagnosed (she didn't recognize it as cancer, but had been in and out of doctor's offices for a year before one finally recognized it as sarcoma - and she's not the type to complain idly) - most of her previous doctors assumed it was some kind of back problem, and she had been sent to chiropractors a couple of times. It was finally recognized as cancer when it started to migrate near her breasts, where abnormal tissues started to serve as warning flags for doctors.
Another family friend died a few years ago of lung cancer; it was also stage 4 when diagnosed. Incidentally, she was given extremely high survival rates when it was first diagnosed as breast cancer; these rates plummeted when her doctors realized that the mass was sitting a little further back than they first found.
It seems that the medical community files cancer into about four categories: breast cancer, prostate cancer, "the patient's own fault" cancers (e.g. lung cancer and liver cancer, which are assumed to be caused by smoking or drinking, even if they aren't), and "other" cancers (which, not being as politically popular as breast cancer or prostate cancer, draw very little funding and attention from medical specialists). If you're unfortunate enough to have a type that's not breast or prostate cancer, your doctors either actively think you deserve to die, or they're just completely in the dark about diagnosing and treating your cancer.
Has anyone else suffered losses from the politicization of cancer? Does it p*ss anyone else off that people with the wrong kind of cancer tend to have dismal chances of being diagnosed or treated properly, because cancer has become politicized so all the resources go to the types that can be used to help our little "boys vs. girls" fights?
A: Ive had family members die from liver cancer, lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, skin cancer, brain cancer and stomach cancer. Ive had family members that have survived breast cancer, cervical cancer and uterine cancer. Do I think these people were treated better? No, not really. These types of cancer are far more common and therefore have far more early detection tests in place. They were all in parts of the body that can be removed without killing the patient. Because I've been highly involved in the Relay for Life (American Cancer Society's signature event) for the past 8 years I have met people who have survived all sorts of cancer.
Q: What should i do about a lump on my testicle.?
I am 17 and for 4 years i have suffered symptoms of enlarged prostate and some symptoms of cancer. For the past 6 months, a have had a large soft lump on my left testicle. What should i do?
A: You do need to see your GP.Once he has reassured you that there is no physical disease you will need some help with your hypochondria.
Q: Why is Masturbating such an EVIL SIN for Christians?
Why is masturbating so bad for christians?
I heard that masturbating can prevent prostate cancer.
Well let's say someone was feeling unwell and it had something to do with prostate cancer symptoms, and the doctor says there is still a way to stop your cancer from fully forming by masturbating 3 times a day for 10 days. But then you tell your doctor, "Hey Doc sorry I can't masturbate without having to watch Porn and fantasizing about sex." Doctor says do what you must in order to masturbate, because it's the only scientific way that can help prevent you from getting prostate cancer, you reply, "But Doc, I'm a Christian, and God says not to commit adultery and think about sexual fantasies. Oh well, it's alright Doc, I'd rather die following the Word of God, than live with sin."
Anyways that mini "skit" was just an example. So is it still a SIN to masturbate?? What if you were instructed by your Doctor in order to keep healthy and prevent prostate cancer?? Would God get mad at me for listening to a Doctor?
I know it's pretty rare that this scenario would happen, but I just really want to know what the big deal is with SIN and Masturbation.
A: we are supposed to master our sins. not give in to lust and that kind of stuff.
I think God understands why we do. I think the message is more like...."don't do it all the time" ,"master control over it"
Q: Is this a Urinary Tract Infection that i have or somethign else?
I have been feeling kinda difficult when i start to pee. Like it gets stuck in the neck of my penis first then it comes out. And sometimes when i start to pee the urethra thing kinda hurts.
It isnt really a burning sensation during peeing, just when starting it kinda stings and something kinda tingles in the neck of my penis when starting to pee.
Yesterday for some reason my left back side/kidney area, kinda had a dull pain like someone is pushing on it. Then this morning until like 11:30 it was gone.
So is this a Urinary Tract Infection or not?
Thanks. I have been drinking cranberry juice and i just finished a whole bottle, and that seemed to make the pain go away in my back.
Also, what are the prostate cancer symptoms?
Could this be it or no?
Yeah, i cant go to the doctor.
My parents think that its just something that i feel.
They wont get my urine tested because i had a urine test like 3 weeks ago but i didnt have this thing back then.
A: You need a doctor's diagnosis.
I just wanted to answer you because please make sure you are drinking pure cranberry juice, with no sweetener, or pear juice, or corn syrup added because added sugars will end up feeding the bacteria. You can also get capsules at your local health food store, I like Cranactin, Nature's Way Standardized Cranberry, or Eclectic Institute brand.
If you do pure cranberry juice you need to load up and keep it up for a few days so as not to quit too early and risk having a rager next time around. Also, drink plenty of water.
Good luck. I suggest going to the school nurse or a local clinic, or even ask a pharmacist. :) Then you can do the cranberry with confidence...
Q: For those you had suffered prostate or testicular cancer?
i just wanna ask you guys from your own experience if you suffered and survived. what are some of the symptoms of these two cancers?
A: I am not a guy, but my best friend's father was told he had prostrate cancer in 2000. He had no signs, it was picked up from blood test. From what I understand if you have any signs it is probably too far advanced to do much about, but I do not know this for sure. Anyway, my friends father had surgery which he recovered from in about a week. They checked (blood test) him every 3 months, and on his 2nd check the cancer reappeared. He then went through a whole lot of radiation treatments. A year after the cancer reappeared again nut was very low on the scale. It is now 2007, he is alive and well with a low reading on the cancer scale. Her is 75 works every day, and travels a lot all over the world. That's about what I know about it. I know men are supposed to have annual blood tests because that is about the only way they know if you have prostate cancer or not.
Q: Is he going to be ok????????
my grandpa (he's 76) was diagnosed with early stage prostate cancer a little over a year ago. He went through radiation since. And had no problems after. But now, my grandma told me he has been having blood and tissue in his urine. I read that it's one of the symptoms of prostate cancer (but he was treated for it already a year ago), BUT he has no pain or swelling or anything like that, so that is his only symptom. My mom and grandma are freaking out.... What do you think is happening to my grandpa, do you think the cancer has come back? If so, do you think it's treatable? Any help is appreciated, thanks.
A: Its not definite from the info u have given whether ur grandpa's cancer has returned but blood in the urine is usually not a good sign considering the history of prostate cancer, if after radiation, he was given a clean bill of health, the condition may just be a side effect of the radiation treatment he underwent as it may manifest later and not cancer recurrence itself. His urologist should be able to explain these things to u.
Q: whats the difference between enlarged prostate and prostate cancer?
what are the symptoms of either?
A: A swollen prostrate gland can be caused from several reasons, and is best avoided by having regular and consistent sexual release. Avoid changes in sexual activities like regular healthy sex, followed by periods of abstinence, for what ever reason. Stay consistent as possible.
The prostrate adjusts to a production rate for semen which makes for 90 some percent of the semen liquid content. Males often have prostrate swelling in later years, because they reduce their frequency of sexual activity sooner than their testosterone reduces. Prostrate congestion causes swelling, which can result in reduction in the ability for urine flow.
I'm only 24, and if I go on a business trip for a week and don't give myself relief at least once during that time through masturbation, I notice a change in it becoming a reduced flow when I pee.
There are medications that reduce testosterone and prostrate production, thus reducing production of semen and prostrate size, which gives relief.
When the condition is cleared up, it may be desirable to ease off of the medication and back into a regular sex life, which is desired by most couples, and is healthier.
Calcification of accumulated semen in the prostrate gland can cause hardening, permanent enlargement and also lead to cancer which means that body cells are reproducing at an uncontrolled and abnormal rate and can break off and travel in the blood stream to other parts of the body starting cancer else where. Prostrate cancer often becomes bone cancer if not detected soon enough.
The best test for a male is a rectal exam where the doctor feels the prostrate with his finger, and if there is an abnormality such as enlargement or a hardened area felt, from calcification, the doctor will perform what is called a PSA test.
The PSA test is taken from a blood sample, and measures the amount of a protein enzyme that is produced by the prostrate, and is an indicator for best measuring for cancerous activity in the prostrate gland.
Early symptoms can look like trouble peeing, just the same as the swollen prostrate. It can also look like pains in the pelvic region, and a feeling of firmness or hardness inside when squeezing the core muscles which surround the prostrate and cut off the pee flow.
It can feel like pain in the anis regeion where the prostate is located, or as pain in the lower core regeon where the prostrate is located.
The pain depends upon which innee neuro receptors are being affected.
Men, as well as doctors often mistake a pain caused by prostrate cancer as the sciatic nerve being pinched.
Prostrate cancer is a leading killer in healthy males and best taken seriously and guarded against in healthy life practices, with regular check ups.
Hope that helps lots
Me! :- )
Q: How is prostate cancer treated ?
About 3 weeks ago my husband had a horrible pain in his lower abdomin . He went to the doctor and they said his prostate was swollen but that he is too young to have prostate problems. He also had a uriary tract infection. So they put him on antibiotics and ran all kinds of test. I am worried that it might be something bad because he had stomach cancer about 3 years ago. I feel like i am losing my mind worrying I have heard horrible things about prostate cancer . He is still in some pain , so it has'nt went away in 3 weeks . Does anyone know what the symptoms or the treatment is for prostate cancer ?
A: I had prostate cancer in 2005... there was no bad pain. Just a dull pain when I sat too much or too long.. and I had to urinate lots at night... that was it.. I had Proton Radiation treatments at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda California and am fine now.. Proton Radiation is very different than conventional radiation.. Proton Radiation has no side effects and a 90% cure rate.. I believe it is the very best treatment available today for prostate cancer... There is a web site that is called PROTON BOB that tells all about prostate cancer and proton radiation.. If you go to the website be sure and read the Patient Testimonial section and you will see what former prostate cancer patients think of Proton Radiation.. we are all sold on it and why not ... never sick during or after treatments, no side effects after treatments and a 90% cure rate.. I dont know why any one would even consider the other treatments... It like I was never sick, never had cancer and am cured... There is also a book just recently written by Robert J. Marckini called YOU CAN BEAT PROSTATE CANCER.. It tells all about prostate cancer and then tells about all of the different treatments that are available today including their side effects and other pros and cons.. any one with prostate problems should have the book. It is available at Barnes and noble and other book stores or can be purchased on line at the Proton Bob website... hope this helps.. have a good day and I hope your husband is fine. Also your husband should have a PSA test and if the PSA numbers have gone up since his last test he should have a biopsy....even if the PSA # is within satisfactory ranges.. if it has gone up since his last PSA test get a biopsy done.. I met men with PSAs in the 2s that had prostate cancer when i was getting my treatments.. thats how their doctor caught it.. just an upward tick.. and thats how to catch it early..Also remember if he has it.. that PROTON RADIATION is much different than conventional beam radiation.. Protton Radiation has no side effects.. It doesnt effect the other organs in your body.. you are not incontent or impotent after Proton radiation.. like I said no side effects.
