Q: what are the causes of prostate cancer?what are the signs and symptoms?

A: Prostate cancer is a disease in which cancer develops in the prostate, a gland in the male reproductive system. Cancer occurs when cells of the prostate mutate and begin to multiply out of control. These cells may spread (metastasize) from the prostate to other parts of the body, especially the bones and lymph nodes. Prostate cancer may cause pain, difficulty in urinating, erectile dysfunction and other symptoms. Symptoms Early prostate cancer usually causes no symptoms. Often it is diagnosed during the workup for an elevated PSA noticed during a routine checkup. Sometimes, however, prostate cancer does cause symptoms, often similar to those of diseases such as benign prostatic hypertrophy. These include frequent urination, increased urination at night, difficulty starting and maintaining a steady stream of urine, blood in the urine, and painful urination. Prostate cancer may also cause problems with sexual function, such as difficulty achieving erection or painful ejaculation. Advanced prostate cancer may cause additional symptoms as the disease spreads to other parts of the body. The most common symptom is bone pain, often in the vertebrae (bones of the spine), pelvis or ribs, from cancer which has spread to these bones. Prostate cancer in the spine can also compress the spinal cord, causing leg weakness and urinary and fecal incontinence. more:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostate_cancer

Q: Do I have pancreatic cancer?
I'm really afraid of cancer because I watched my grandpa slowly and painfully die from it. I believe he had prostate cancer. I was doing some research on cancers and learning how to prevent it and learned that pancreatic cancer is usualy always caught in a late stage and is untreatable. Are there any ways I can prevent pancreatic cancer, or any cancer for that fact, and some signs and symptoms of early stage? Also, how are some ways to get checked for it? I don't smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol, or do any drugs. I have a mixed diet of high-fat foods and I eat fruits and vegetables and other healthy foods too. I am not overweight and I'm not sure if I have diabetes. Can smoking a few cigarettes and then stopping give you the same chance of getting cancer as someone who smokes all the time for years? Lately I've been having abdominal pain, nausea, and weakness. I have panic disorder and I wonder if this may just be panic attacks or something. Sometimes I think being sick is just in my head and I'm crazy, and sometimes I wonder if it's true. Lately I've been depressed off and on (like happy one minute and hopeless the next) and during these times feel the symptoms I mentioned earlier, and sometimes feeling sick causes my depression. Could somebody please give me any information they can about pancreatic cancer, preventing it, and anything about other cancers. I'd also like to know some other things causing these symptoms and if it's possible for a white, 14 year old has a good chance for pancreatic cancer? Does anyone have any suggestions on asking my mom to take me to the doctors. I've asked her before and she said that there's nothing wrong with me. Then again I only told her that I've been having panic attacks, but nothing else.

A: As someone who also suffers with anxiety I can tell you right now that this is the old hyperchondria/paranoia rearing its head. You need to get your panic issues sorted out, or you'll work your way through every illness/disease there is, convincing yourself you have it. I did. Stomach pains, nausea, weakness - all things that panic can cause. Go to a doctor, and not to find out if you have pancreatic cancer - to get some anti-anxiety meds and find out where you can get counselling, because you need it. I know you came on here wanting to find out about pancreatic cancer, but believe me I totally recognise your train of thought. You're 14 and you're no more at risk from any form of cancer than anyone else. Smoking a few cigarettes does not give you anywhere near the same chance of getting cancer as proper addicts. Just put all worries about cancer and the like out your head, and start tackling this anxiety problem, because it's the only problem you have here, but it's big enough to take over your life. You don't have pancreatic cancer, and you're not going to get it. You do have a big anxiety problem. Chalice EDIT: One last important tip: DO NOT research illnesses. All that will happen is you'll convince yourself you've got them all. Don't read anything about any illnesses at all. If you're ever concerned about your health, go to a doctor for some rational advice, do not start scaring yourself.

Q: I am 20 years old, but I am experiencing some symptoms of prostate health issues, what are my options?
I am only 20 years old but I have been having some problems that led me to do some research. After I am finished urinating, I continue on my day but urine continues to slowly leak out. I read some of the symptoms of prostate problems and this is the only symptom that I experience, I do not have any pain or troubles urinating, only the trouble of urine leaking out. This has actually been happening for quite some time now, possibly more than a year. Is there something I can do on my own to fix this? Do One-A-Day Men's Health vitamins do anything? Or should I go to a doctor and explain that I've been having this problem for a while? Is this perhaps a sign of cancer or just irritation?

A: The odds of prostate cancer are VERY remote. It is more likely that you have prostatitis (infection of prostate gland) or a urinary tract infection. Consult your GP for a urine sample. If inconclusive, a prostate examination will need to be performed.

Q: Do I have bladder cancer?
Guys I'm soo worried I have bladder cancer. I've had some tests done.. no sign of infection. I had an ultrasound and cytology done a couple of months ago and the ultrasound showed what they believe are kidney stones, but these tests aren't accurate for diagnosing bladder cancer. Anyways I have symptoms that aren't characteristic of kidney stones sitting in your kidneys. I have pain in my bladder a lot, pain in my bladder when I urinate, blood, frequency and now I have lower back pain. All my symptoms sort of come and go day to day. I'm freaking out I have bladder cancer or some kind of cancer.. maybe prostate or urethral. Can anyone give me any thoughts. I have a ct scan booked for 2 weeks and yes of course I've seen doctors. just turned 26 years old. what a birthday. been tested for std's and all kinds of infection. its neither.. just for some extra info

A: You are absolutely correct when you say that some of these tests are inaccurate. My sister who was 47 was diagnosed with gall stones and it took weeks for her to get the surgery and it was then they discovered she had 3rd stage pancreatic cancer.Do yourself a favour and get that mri sooner rather than later to ensure a correct diagnosis. Hope it all goes well.

Q: Could there be something wrong with my prostate? 22 yrs old?
Symptoms: - Seem to have to urinate a little more than usual, and when I go, the stream doesn't seem to be as powerful as it should be. Also, if I hear another male urinate in a public restroom, he will urinate 2x to 3x for a longer time than I do! Whether or not I drink before going to bed, I always have to urinate when I wake up and my stomach often hurts because of it when I wake up. I usually don't lay on my stomach because that makes it feel more annoying. After I pee, it feels slightly like my bladder wasn't fully emptied and a some drops will dribble out after I pee if any pressure is put on that area, like if I pee, then go and sit down in a car seat. Seems to have been getting worse since since ~14 (was non-existant then I think and slowly developed the problem) - I can get an erection but it seems like it's somewhat harder to get one now, and it seems like it was a tad firmer, bigger and even a little longer, about 3-4 years ago. - When I ejaculate there isn't a lot of force anymore, it just kinda slowly comes out. I remember there used to be force, just like I remember there used to be more force when urinating. Also seems to have gotten worse over the years, since ~14. At 22 isn't it weird to already notice these declines? I know it's gross, but I looked online about self prostate exam and I did one, and I can reach my prostate - which already seems to be a warning sign. The guide said if it feels like "the flesh by your thumb when you make a tight fist," then it's fine, but if it feels like "a knuckle" then you have a problem. Well it doesn't feel as HARD as a knuckle BONE but, unless it is my imagination, it feels somewhat bigger than a walnut, feels somewhat harder than that flesh near the thumb when making a fist, and has a slight oval shape, as if protruding out into the rectum territory more than it should. (In cut-away images of the prostate, it doesn't protrude into the rectum's area very much at all, but an image of an enlarged one DOES.) All could be my imagination since I can't actually see it and can only feel it, but... I've always felt that something isn't right. I am sitting down all the time at my job and at home and what's worse, I have a bad habit of putting my legs up on the chair when I'm sitting if the chair can't scoot in very far due to arm rests hitting the desk. So basically my left knee facing up, bent, with my foot on the edge of the chair, and my right leg either down on the floor like normal, or also up on the chair, bent in a V, but instead of facing up like the left one, it's laying flat, kinda like a weird version of sitting "Indian style" or whatever, or both legs bent up like a V and both on the chair. I know, I'm weird, horrible habit. I don't have too much meat or "cushion" on me (I'm skinny - no butt) so my theory was there was like no padding and squished the prostate and it got irritated over the years? I'm 6' and weigh about 135. Could any of that have anything to do with it, as in, putting abnormal pressure on the prostate area and causing it to swell up? Or does it sound like prostate cancer, or what? Thank you for any suggestions/info/or advice. Thanks Spicey and Care For. :) A2, yes, no sense in lying, I do about once a day.

A: The best advice that can be given is to seek early medical attention. First, it helps to confirm whether your fear is unfounded or not. Second, any disease is easy to treat and cure if it is detected at an early stage. Doctors can only confirm after doing some real tests. Hope your fear is unfounded. All the best and Good luck!

Q: How is my dad gonna feel?
My dad has fast growing prostate cancer - he is 69, he has had both hormone injections (doesnt have these now) and he is on hormone tablets, he had green light PVP done to ease his symptoms and now he is going to start Radiotherapy tomorrow, everyday for 4 weeks. If anyone has experience of this how is he gonna feel? I'm worried about him as he is blind and very independent but I wanna look out for signs, i.e tiredness, burning etc.... Thanks for reading! x

A: Hello darling, My mum received radiotherapy treatment when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and unfortunately for many people, the effects can last for years. Radiotherapy works by destroying any cancerous cells, and surrounding cells, to avoid the spread of any more cancerous cells. You can read up on how this works using wikipedia (I will only confuse you, and myself). Many healthy cells are also damaged with this process, and this means that the body has to work extra hard to fix and heal the damaged areas. The side effects are a feeling of exhaustion, burning or irritation on/in the area where the treatment is applied, feeling irritable and sometimes loss of appetite. There could be different or more symptoms depending on the individual. As you already know, he will need lots of support which will be tricky, but he will need it. Chat with him and let him know to always let you and your family know when he needs help, just so he knows he still has independence and your loving support at the same time. Good luck with everything and I wish your dad a speedy recovery :)

Q: What are some signs of an anxiety disorder?
My fiance worries constantly about his health. Every day when I am at school, he researches different things he feels and what they could be a sign of. He insists there must be something urgent wrong with him, and complains about being able to feel his heart beat, his blood pressure going up and down,...anything he feels he will immediately look it up and find that all of his symptoms are linked to all these different terrible things. He has been convinced that he has prostate issues, cancer, this, that-he always has a new thing that could be wrong with him. I am very worried about him and I think his only actual problem is that he is struggling with extreme anxiety. He recently went to the eye doctor and they found that he may have glaucoma, and this has sent him on a HUGE worry frenzy. He is going to find out within the next week or two whether he actually does have it and what they can do about it...but I am not sure any of the symptoms he feels normally even have to do with glaucoma.. Does this sound like a typical anxiety disorder? and if so, what could treat it? (I do not think he should take benzos..but if that is the only thing available,...)

A: Definately a hypochondriac, it is causing him to have anxiety, and possibly panic attacks. Get him involved in something other than his health. Try starting little activities, because if you have a big activity it could make him start to freak out a little. These things can be cured with pure reassurance alone, tell him he is ok and change the topic.

Q: DOCTORS, pain in butthole, WHY?
when my fiance masturbates or has sex and ejaculate hard (real good cum, hard cum) he says his butthole gets really tight and hurts, QUESTION IS what could be the reason, what other signs or symptoms should he look for? i know he should go to dr but give me an idea at what we could be facing, hes afraid it may be prostate cancer.

A: not prostate cancer. has nothing to do with butthole. when he masturbates, he must be sucking-in his buttcheeks. causing it to hurt.

Q: I have a very low oxygen saturation level. Lows around 70% to high of 88%. What are some possible causes?
In the last four months, I've had a Ct scan, Hide-a-Scan, two heart studies, three halter monitors, sleep study,Sonogram, full body bone scan, endoscopy and complete blood work up. My cholesterol was slightly above normal. The sleep study showed I have sleep apnea. ( I now wear a C-Pap @ 17 psi w/ 5 lpm o2). The endoscopy showed some signs of mild damage due to aspirin and tylenol taken for the pain. The CT scan showed mild degeneration of L1 & L2 but otherwise nothing significant. (History of prostate cancer. Dr thought maybe the cancer had metastasized into the spine but bone scan showed no evidence of cancer) Moderate to severe pain in RUQ was diagnosed as costal condritis. Symptoms of this are improving. Bone chilling fatigue haunts me. I'm fairly certain that this is a direct result of the low o2 sats. Any ideas? So far, the doctors have not found out the problem. Thanks!

A: Yes, those are very low saturations. In general, the causes of low saturation are problems with the mechanics of breathing (such as sleep apnea), unequal blood flow in the lungs, problems with oxygen diffusing from the lungs into the blood, problems with the heart (such as a shunt), hemoglobin problems, and problems with the saturation monitor itself (certain things can give false readings). I don't know how many of these things the doctors have addressed so far, but they should keep looking until they find the cause. If your current doctor has given up, find another one. Those numbers are way too low. Now, if you are just referring to your sleep study numbers, that is a different story; in that case, you should first focus on the sleep apnea (sleep apnea alone can make you bone tired). But if they are that low in the daytime, the doctors need to keep looking for a cause, and they need to consider having you on oxygen, too. I hope they figure it out soon, and I hope you feel better soon.
